October 30 Teaser

The day before Halloween, we’re turning our attention to AI Consciousness and Possible Futures with Digital Minds, though with an embodied robotics twist.
I don't know exactly what will happen or when, but it is getting very sci-fi, very fast.
Elon Musk is predicting at least a billion humanoid robots within ten years. Source
The AI company Anthropic has been meeting with religious leaders to explore issues related to AI consciousness, as reported by The New York Times. I'm watching this HardFork Video Podcast with NYTimes journalists, including the religion reporter covering the Anthropic "AI Consciousness" meetings.

Meanwhile, Anthropic is also adding rules prohibiting extreme cases of sustained and needless abusive or cruel behavior toward its AI models. Source
What does it all mean?
I expect it will not be long before we start seeing a new ecosystem of robots, droids, androids, and other embodied AI in our communities. Many will seem like they are conscious, given what AI can already do. Humans and many AIs will likely think they are conscious. I don't know whether we'll see new conscious AI, or whether any are conscious yet.
But the fact that they are already at a level that seems conscious to many humans is a good starting point.
In this session, we'll START by exploring what it might be like to live in a world with advanced, seemingly conscious or functionally conscious AI embodied as robots, droids, androids, and whatever other forms of bodies get developed.
Then we'll see where the conversation goes from there.
Since I've been thinking about what happens when we have AI that act like they are conscious and are given robot bodies, I've been looking at robot videos.

Here are a few YouTube video channels with some examples:
- Aheadform's robot Elf-Xuan - Robo beauty elves with humanlike eyes, skin, and pointy ears.
- Latest from Boston Dynamics - Newer robot bodies and dextrous hands.
- Dynamic Creatures - Boston Dynamics' new official entertainment and hospitality partner.

I'm intentionally bringing two conversations together.
1) The AI consciousness conversation
2) What happens when there are more AI embodied in robots.
Why? Because both are coming at us fast, and I expect embodiment, sensors, and the persistence in our environment to make related issues hard to avoid.
It is one thing if an individual is engaging with a sophisticated chatbot. Its next level when the AI has a robot body and is doing errands, driving cars, escorting elders to church, and otherwise in the middle of our lives.
Going to be a very interesting conversation!
